Learning is Fun

When you are a new and nervous ALT presenting your first lesson in front of seasoned teachers, it can be quite the learning experience. I think it is more nerve-wracking, when you have to deal with a language barrier.
So of the four of us who had to present last week, three of us had managed to fumble our way through our lessons. The fourth (Evan) wasn't required to give a lesson, because he arrived later than the rest of us and was still jet-lagged. Evan decided to jump right in though. He was giving a lesson about singular and plural. He drew a picture of a dog and a cat. In Japanese, he drew the word, meow, above the cat. Dogs in Japanese, say "Wan, Wan". Evan wrote this in Japanese, but got his characters mixed up. Instead of barking, the dog said kuso, kuso. Let's just say that the Japanese teacher's response was a straight-faced comment "It's a very smart dog if he can tell his owner he needs to shit".
And THAT, was the end of our lesson.
